Project Pride Charlotte

UPDATE: We’ll be meeting at 10a for breakfast, fellowship, & expectations for the day at The Original Pancake House at 915 Charlottetowne Avenue. Please arrive a few minutes beforehand so we can be seated at once. We will then head Uptown by noon to 4th and Tryon Street to pray & will use this location as our “home base” for tract & water distribution.

The 2011 Pride Charlotte Festival takes place on August 27th in Uptown Charlotte, NC, and is the culmination of gay pride week celebrating the local lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community (LGBT).  With the recent passing of New York state law legalizing homosexual marriage, the turnout for this event is expected to be greater than otherwise anticipated (Chicago estimates 750,000 attendees during the Chicago Pride Festival).

If you have a compassionate desire to seek the lost in the gay community, we invite you to join us in sharing the Gospel of Christ with the participants of Pride Charlotte.  We expect this to be a challenging day as sexual immorality, wickedness, and rejection will abound, nevertheless, into battle we must go – and we have a plan.

We are currently raising money to purchase 20,000 customized Gospel tracts to distribute for this event.  As we have raised about 70% of the funds necessary to purchase the tracts, we can still use your financial support to achieve our goal of $700.  If you are unable to attend this event, this would be a great way for you to partner with us.  (Update: we reached our goal!) Please see The Rainbow Gospel Tract Fundraiser for details.

With the help of committed evangelists, we will be able to distribute all of these tracts and take opportunity to engage in one-on-one witnessing as the Lord permits.  The Rainbow Promise message is one of truth and love and makes no direct charge against the sin of homosexuality.  Contrary to the message of some street preachers who preach condemnation with their own wicked speech, our message will be one of patience, humility, and grace as we seek to save that which is lost.  After all, it is only by the grace of God that any of us have been saved from the bondage of our sin and the wrath of God to come, and it is this message we proclaim that sinners will be saved through the blood of Jesus Christ by repentant faith.

We pray the Lord  will stir you with courage to join us on the streets to engage the homosexual community with the only Hope of salvation.  As Christ said to His disciples in Matthew 9:37-38,

The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.

Will you labor with us?  You are free to join us for the whole day or as time permits you.  Please RSVP at the facebook event page and let us know if you have any questions.

Though we go into battle facing “the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12), we go not into battle alone.  Our God is greater than he that is in the world, and He has armed us with the armor of Light to boldly go forth to make His name known to the ends of the earth, even the darkest of places.  Let us take refuge in our Great God and King, our strength and the Rock of our salvation, our fortress and our shield, trusting that He has equipped us for every good work.  Let us be faithful servants of the Most High God, loyal to the Great Commission set before us, being vessels of truth to seek and save that which is lost.  Soli Deo Gloria!

I am curious to WHOM you are referring to when you state that some street preachers “preach condemnation with their own wicked speech”? Perhaps your characterization of them is your “own wicked speech”? I and other precious saints have been out preaching and ministering to homosexuals at these events for many years, but I see that you are saved all of… two years(!) and yet you speak as some kind of authority on how to minister to these people! And further, that your approach will be the “patience, grace and humility” approach, unlike those other people you attack, as if you have arrived and have the corner on those virtues from the Lord Jesus Christ. Young man, come and LEARN from others who have walked with God for decades and have been doing this, often at great risk to their physical safety and at their own expense.

I find your attitude utterly lacking in humility, and it seems you are coming to sow discord, and think you can show others how “it really gets done”. Well, the Lord has had me deal with haughty young men like you for a long time. You have a lot to learn. The first thing Christians doing outreach know not to do is to speak against one another to sinners, who can only be confused by such division and discord. I suggest you ask God to fill your young mind with WISDOM seeing you are a novice in the things of God, the Spirit, and the ministry.

Lastly, your boast that your tracts contain no direct charge against homosexuality is evidence of your inexperience in these things and the things of God. Hear Martin Luther:

If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition
every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little
point which the world and the devil are at that moment
attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I
    may be professing Christ.
Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is
proved, and to be steady on all the battlefield besides
is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point.

  2. AP, why did you take such offense to this article and why do you believe I was referring to you?

    • AP says:

Since we have been ministering at the Charlotte Pride for years, and since you are coming here announcing your superior way(you’re not the first to think they know better and are of a superior Christian walk and ministy), who else could you possibly be referrring to? We have been dealing with the aggressive Sodomite Agenda for Charlotte since 2003 not only at the Pride events, but in numerous City Council meetings, meetings with the City Attorneys, Police Dept. etc. And God has granted success you know nothing of.

The primary tract we hand out is I WAS GAY by Stephen Bennett. We certainly do deal with this sin directly. We have also handed out hundreds of DVDs we made of a powerful testimony from a former homosexual. God has moved mightily, and His Presence and anointing is with us while we are out there.

Now then, just who were you referring to? Operation Save America has been in Charlotte delegitimizing this abominable event and rebuking it publically since 2003. Who else could you possibly be referring to?

      • AP, your group was not in mind when I wrote this article. It’s unfortunate that you lashed out the way you did without first asking in a respectful manner of whom I may be speaking. The statement was in reference to Westboro Baptist types and Pelagian street preachers I am familiar with. They clearly need to examine themselves against Romans 2:1-5:

“Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.”

If you and your group are not out condemning people, calling them names, instigating and antagonizing them, looking down on people, and judging them, then this was not about you.

Back to your original comment, you seem to take issue with my being relatively young in the faith, which has been nearly 2.5 years after being a false convert for 22 years with great head knowledge of Scripture. Since then, the Lord has blessed me in my understanding of His Word and sanctifying me by His truth. Moreover, the Apostle Paul would take issue with your accusations against me, as he instructed Timothy in chapter two of his first epistle to him, “12Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” Not only do I hold myself accountable before God, but I am surrounded by godly brothers who I expect to correct me if I am wrong in my conduct or speech. So while I respect older brothers in the faith and do indeed have much to learn (from godly men of sound doctrine that is), your foolish judgment against me only shows your own immaturity in the faith.

You said, “The first thing Christians doing outreach know not to do is to speak against one another to sinners” – that depends on whether those involved in outreach are doing what is pleasing unto the Lord and are honoring Him and bringing glory to Him by preaching Christ and Him crucified, walking in humility, counting themselves as nothing apart from Christ, realizing they are only saved themselves by the undeserving grace of God, speaking the truth in love, standing firm on God’s Word, being kind and respectful to men, that God may grant sinners repentance. If so-called ministers of the Gospel are not doing this, then they do not understand grace and we do not want to associate with that kind of message.

We fully understand that homosexuality is sinful, just as the sin of drunkenness, adultery, lust, fornication, idolatry, lying, murder, stealing, covetousness, and hatred is sinful. Our primary mission tomorrow is not to resist the gay agenda, but to preach the Gospel that hearts would be changed. While I am against the gay agenda as much as anyone else, heaping judgment and attempting to impose moralism on people is not what changes lives – it is the Gospel that does this, for it is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes. When homosexuality comes up in the discussions, we will address it accordingly with the appropriate Scriptures, but we are not out there to prove why homosexuality is a sin, to win debates, or to boast in our knowledge of Scripture – we are out there to minister to people to show them that God can deliver them from the bondage of sin and the wrath of God to come through His mercy and by His grace alone through repentant faith alone in Christ alone.

Now that I’ve given you further explanation as to our intentions and that your group was not in reference when this article was written, I hope you consider the manner in which you approached and accused this ministry. I pray God will give you greater understanding of His grace, especially if your message is similar to those I have described in this reply. You might also consider reading 1 Corinthians 6:11. Also, here is our follow-up link for when people visit our website as a result from receiving the tract:

We have no ill-will towards you in how you have treated The Speak:Truth Project, and if your message is the same as ours as explained in this reply, then we can rally around the cross together to lift up the name of Jesus that His sheep would hear His voice and follow Him. May God be honored and glorified in your ministry and receive all the praise He is due.

        • AP says:

Justin–why would you issue a veiled statement about Westboro Baptist when they have nothing to do with Charlotte or the people that minister at Charlotte Pride? They way you wrote it implies you are coming in the “loving, humble” way in distinction to others street preachers IN CHARLOTTE who don’t do it that way. Well that sure limits who you meant, and it is also self-exalting, despite the verbiage. You have a chip on your shoulder.

Westboro Baptist is BLATANTLY Calvinist. At Phelps church is a large sign that says TULIP leaning up against the pulpit! You meant Pelagians and them? Really? You had those two polar opposite groups in mind? And how believable is this? And who are those “Pelgians” you had in mind? Is that what they subscribe to? Did they tell you this, or is this what you seek to tag them with? You need to be transparent here and answer.

Are you going to preach the gospel or Calvinism? We preach repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. We want people to see the goodness and the severity of God. But unlike you, we believe the Father wants to save all men. You are going there elect-hunting. We go there seeking to save that which is lost–which is every single homosexual there. The vast majority of Christians who will be out there tomorrow, and there will be many, are Arminian. Will that be a problem for you?

As far as not coming out condemning people? I don’t know what you mean by that. They are condemned already-John 3:16-19, 36. We intend to make them aware of that. We also intend to make them aware that God is not holding their sin against them now, so they can be reconciled to Him-2Cor5:17-21.

We also need to remind them of the example God gave, that Jude said was to be a witness to all who would walk after such vile perversity–Sodom and Gomorrah. Jude said this was God’s statement TO THE WORLD about what he thought of those who practice and promote such things. Why would you not bear the same message God has given to Sodomites in particular? Our city and leaders must be warned.

You said God doesn’t have you out there to come against an agenda. That is fine. But that is part of what God has called us to do, along with preaching the gospel and leading these people to the Lord. You don’t understand prophetic ministry. Just believe that. God has other things in mind at these events. You don’t know it all.

Lastly, are you telling me you are unaware that other ministries have been at, and will be again this year at Charlotte Pride? If you were aware, your comments are certainly foolish and inflammatory, as I explained to you. If you truly were not aware, then know this: there will be many believers there, some of whom are twice your age, and have been in the ministry for decades. Some of them have been reaching out to homosexuals for decades as well. Some of them have been assaulted by homosexuals, yet they return again, seeking to lead them to the Lord. You need to come alongside others who have far more experience than you, and while you yourselves reach out. watch and learn as well. One puts a thousand to flight, and two ten thousand. If you truly come humbly, not like you sound, even in your response to me–like you have it all figured out, you will learn, God will be glorified and the agenda of the enemy will be defeated. But if you come in the spirit of your article and postings to me–then you are bringing trouble. And if I see and hear it, it will be dealt with. We are not playing games. Our nation is on the verge of total destruction and Charlotte is facing the consequences of welcoming abominations and perversity into it. We will stand in the gap and cry out to God for mercy, though our cities and our nation mock God and beg for judgment. Is this your heart?

          • AP, you are clearly making too many assumptions about us of whom you know nothing about. I have already brought this to the attention of someone who will be addressing these things with you. I will not be spending much more time with you on this as it is only becoming a distraction to the ministry set before us tomorrow.

To clear a couple of more things up for you – in my response, I said “Westboro Baptist TYPES” – those who preach in the same manner as those religious hypocrites (and HYPER-Calvinists mind you). I expect them to be out there tomorrow, and we are making a distinction between us and them.

The Pelagians I am speaking of are associated with Jesse Morrell. If you are familiar with him, then you know what I am talking about and I do not need to elaborate.

Pelagians represent the logical and consistent conclusion of extreme Arminianism, while hyper-Calvinism is a distortion of the doctrines of grace. Both Pelagianism and hyper-Calvinism are heresies and both have produced extreme groups. Now shame on you for calling me a liar with another ill-informed assumption.

I am not going to debate you on the doctrines of grace here – this is not the forum for that. However, I will leave you with this from Spurgeon, which reveals how we can in good conscious serve with our Arminian-leaning brothers and sisters who return the same regard to us:

“We give our hand to every man that loves the Lord Jesus Christ, be he what he may or who he may. The doctrine of election, like the great act of election itself, is intended to divide, not between Israel and Israel, but between Israel and the Egyptians, not between saint and saint, but between saints and the children of the world. A man may be evidently of God’s chosen family, and yet though elected, may not believe in the doctrine of election. I hold that there are many savingly called, who do not believe in effectual calling, and that there are a great many who persevere to the end, who do not believe the doctrine of final perseverance. We do hope the hearts of many are a great deal better than their heads. We do not set their fallacies down to any willful opposition to the truth as it is in Jesus but simply to an error in their judgments, which we pray God to correct. We hope that if they think us mistaken too, they will reciprocate the same Christian courtesy; and when we meet around the cross, we hope that we shall ever feel that we are one in Christ Jesus.”

Your confrontational attitude towards us is completely out of line, and should you attempt to disrupt our efforts in any way tomorrow, you will be ignored and the Lord will deal with you.
